======EgoWeb 2.0: Free, Open-Source Software for Social Network Data Collection======

EgoWeb 2.0 was developed by an open source software collaboration network by researchers at the [[https://www.rand.org/ | RAND Corporation]] in collaboration with the [[http://www.uclarisestudy.com/study-investigators.html|UCLA RISE-UP study]] and the [[https://www.bebr.ufl.edu/survey|University of Florida Survey Research Center]]. 


//NOTE:// In 2018 we added multiple name generator functions to EgoWeb 2.0.  We revised the entire authoring module to enable greater flexibility in authoring.  Refer to [[multinamegenerator|this page]] for an overview of these recent changes and information about how to convert studies created in the previous version that only allowed one name generator to the new version. The authoring instructions for using these new features have been updated. 

This wiki is designed to provide the users of EgoWeb 2.0 with documentation for installation, troubleshooting, and tips on using. The documentation here is always being updated and improved. The "dev" branch, which has the most current code but also has some new bug fixes that are currently being tested, can be directly [[https://github.com/qualintitative/egoweb/archive/dev.zip|downloaded here]].

The "master" branch is in the process of being updated and does not work with current versions of PHP. It can be downloaded directly [[https://github.com/qualintitative/egoweb/archive/master.zip| here]], but I recommend using the 'dev' branch above for now.

======Overview====== 

EgoWeb 2.0 is easy to use and flexible open source software for the collection of social network data in surveys and interviews. EgoWeb 2.0 facilitates egocentric as well as cognitive and whole network data collection.

Many researchers have used EgoWeb 2.0 to add network components to their existing work. It is especially useful for applied social network projects.

EgoWeb 2.0 facilitates data collection and basic data processing and allows for data to be exported into a number of other social network analysis programs. Recently a package for analyzing egocentric networks in R called [[https://github.com/tilltnet/egonetR|egonetR]] added an EgoWeb 2.0 import function. EgoWeb 2.0 is the result of an ongoing collaborative effort by non-profit research centers and universities to conduct social network analyses and present the data visually during interviews.
